Our company is one of the few companies chosen by JTC to feature new colaboration between SME, JTC and Singapore Institutions. 

As our trade is very niche, not many student know about this trade. So we try to expose to student about this trade when they completed their studies in Electronic / Electrical engineering.. The internship program period was between 4 - 6 months. Any new internship student keen to joint us as intern, could drop us a email.

Marinelite echo sounder (fish finder) 6' display interface to Sperry marine vmft radar

 Here you will see the marinelite wind instrument connected with gyro Sperry marine mk1 and gps SOG

at the same time output the wind speed and direction to the sperry marine vmft radar.

Connect Satelite compass to existing single gyro system

 Many times when vessel has only one master gyro compass, it makes autopilot steering difficult when master gyro fail at sea. Using magnetic compass to steer with autopilot is almost impossible.

Satelite compass kick in for this case.

How to setup obsolete order printer with existing Gyro compass ?

 Many times when vessel are very old. Let say approximately 20-30years old.

The equipment on board are very old as well.

Vessel may sell for scrap in 1-2 years time.

To reduce cost on order printer since it is mandatory to install order printer for any voyage.

But because either order printer is obsolete or naviprint could not be output to the order printer.

There is a solution. As long as the gyro compass could output NMEA HDT sentence, the solution is relatively low cost.

Install a UDR(Universal Digital Repeater), set the output to transmit naviprint sentence.

Connect a Epson dot matrix LQ310, then it will do the job.

How to check sperry marine Mk1 gyro compass to ensure gyrosphere is working properly?

I believe quite a lot of service provider company has some bad experience with gyrosphere purchase either from Pakistan, Bangladesh, India reseller markets due to gyrosphere receive and tested defective.

Here is one of our way to test gyrosphere , mainboard, encoder, container to ensure system works at sea after delivered to ship.

Please see procedure below :



Switch on gyro power allow system to run for 4hours for gyro to settle. Connect a Dot matrix printer to TB7 pin 15/16. Go to First page and select F2 for manual settings. Printer use must be Epson LQ300+II or LQ310. Please see below how to enable order printer in the system.
Allow the gyro compass to run overnight and let the printer prints overnight.
The result we will know the next day whether the gyrosphere has sway away or maintain at a fix heading ? This method is good because there are times the gyro current is normal below 300mA. But the gyrosphere is unstable and once we install on vessel, it will become disaster.

Tested this magnetron on sperry marine S-band downmast transceiver. Found magnetron current good for short pulse, medium pulse and long pulse. Take down the magnetron current value as a gauge to predict the magnetron life span for 3-6 months usage. For ship owner who is budget constraint or vessel intend to sail to scrap yard. This magnetron would serve the purpose.

Try to load MDD software into VDR system. Start up and found No MTI and system show slave mode. Connect AIS signal and was able to show on screen.
Then swap the Manta vdr interface pcb FSD-A202 with Manta Radar interface pcb FSD-A223, system detected this pcb and change from No MTI to Tx2. Run simulate mode, it shows very good simulated echo with real AIS targets on screen.

Previously use as vmft ecdis.
Now it can be use as a standalone radar connected as interswitch to other radar. As the specification of the motherboard is relatively low, run the most early software and connect to BME X-band. 3-4Arcs can be shown on display transmit with PM at 12 nm.

Hatteland monitor JH23T12 FUD-AA1-AOAA Reason for failing

Hatteland monitor was one of the type approved marine grade monitor in the market. Why do hatteland monitor fail to work after few years of continuous operation on ship?  One of the main reason was the HRX cable connect between the LCD screen and the control board, insulation breakdown causing shorting internally. Dismantle sperry BME motor

Using hand to rotate the motor found not rotating smoothly. Dismantle the motor and found 6 pieces of bearing/gear inside.Top 3 pieces of bearing/gear, bottom 3 pieces of bearing/gear. Please see photos

Sperry Marine BME X-Band Motor Diagnostic

It was reported that radar stop turning during transmission. Checked scanner on/off switch it was in on position. Go to scanner and open up the upmast gearbox with build in transceiver. Heard a squirking sound from motor drive pcb. Carry out replacement of both motor and motor drive pcb. Checked the motor drive pcb and found two transistors holder melted. Commissioning and Installing Danelec DM100 SVDR on board a Cargo Vessel

This cargo vessel equipped with Rutter SVDR. We are task to replace the old SVDR with Danelec DM100 SVDR. Attend on board and found most of the mounting has already done by crew.
This include Capsule at Monkey Island and all internal and external microphones were mounted.
Cables has been run between microphone and DAU(Data Acquisition Unit). All sensors including GPS, AIS, Gyro, Speed log. BAU(Bridge Alarm Unit) has been mounted as well. Checked software version 1.20. Upgrade software from V1.20 to V1.21. Connect sperry vmft X-band radar image to SVDR for image captured at resolution of 1920 x 1200. VHF found Skanti and remove the old interface to relocate near DAU. Run a short cable between DAU and VHF. Tested SVDR recording VHF signal properly.
